Do you ever feel you've become the worst version of yourself? That a Pandora's box of all the secret, hateful parts - your arrogance, your spite, your condescension - has sprung open? Someone upsets you and instead of smiling and moving on, you zing them? "Hello, it's Mr Nasty." - *Joe Fox You're Got Mail
And boy, if your family and friends can't call you out on your crap, then I'm not sure who can.
I guess if I've learned anything from this, I hate that I've become cynical.
Cynicism is one of the worst feelings to have in my book. It brews up trouble, taints things, and fuels a bad attitude.
So, I'll eat my humble pie, beg forgiveness and leave a promise to do better. I'm adding be more genuine, be positive, and be kind, to my growing list of thing to work on.
*man.. isn't you've got mail full of quotable goodies?
I so needed to read this today. I'm guilty of being cynical lately too. You're right, it really does fuel your mood. Here's to focusing on the positive. :]
ReplyDeleteThat is what family is for! Sometimes it makes me mad to be called out on stuff like that, but I'm glad they do it.
ReplyDeleteAlso, perfect "You've Got Mail" quote.
But Kate you are so honest and i love that. we are all cynics at times. It does help to be positive, and i agree You've got Mail is one of my very fav movies. It is so clever and makes everything sound pretty.
ReplyDeleteOh man, I have been the same way. I used to be so nice and I always looked for the good in things, but lately I have been way too cynical... right there along with you.
ReplyDeleteCan you share some of that pie with me?
love that part of you've got mail. you are just so insightful.
